A proposed city ordinance in Chippewa Falls could have a negative effect on tavern businesses. The ordinance being proposed would require people who are smoking to keep a "reasonable distance" away from any doors, windows, or vents.
This is a concern for Tomahawk Tavern owner Doug Olson who does not have the room to make a designated smoking area. He says, "It's tough when you start adding more rules and when rules come into place here that impact my customers who decide, hey, I don't want to be here anymore. That's where it might hurt me."
No final decisions have been made about the proposal. The city council will meet again to discuss the proposal on Wednesday at 9a.m. That meeting is open to the public.
